Below is a list of the speakers from the 2017 conference. The Car Finance Conference boasts a variety of industry leading speakers including the UK’s largest finance houses, major manufacturers, top ten dealer groups, brokers and new entrants from the FinTech world and beyond!
Malcolm Banfield has been Commercial Director for RCI Financial Services since 2011, responsible for delivering volume & profit objectives on New & Used vehicle finance & supporting the development of F&I profitability for the Nissan, Infiniti, Renault & Dacia networks. This role involves managing the Field Team and the deployment of sales systems, tools & methods, including CRM and Training. Prior to this he held a number of roles within the Renault Group, including Renault UK, Renault Retail Group and a number of overseas postings in France, SE Asia, Hungary & the Nordic countries.
Chris joined Close Brothers in 2013, assuming the role of Director of Strategy of the Motor Finance division in March 2016.
In his current role, Chris focuses on developing CBMF’s current proposition as well as positioning the business in the evolving market. Chris’s remit includes managing teams focused on market analysis, strategy design and change delivery.
Prior to joining Close Brothers, Chris worked in corporate finance / M&A specialising in the financial services sector.
Simon is a product marketer and strategist with 18 years’ experience working for a range of major international brands. Simon’s role is to work with Intelligent Environments’ investors to set and deliver the company’s mid and long term strategy, as well as overall responsibility for the product development and management of Interact; the company’s core product offering. Simon joined in 2013 from Lloyds Banking Group where he was responsible for payment technology and also sat on the Credit Card divisions leadership team. Prior to this he worked on the launch of a number of firsts in new technology – the Blackberry (BT Cellnet), BT Openzone (BT Retail), 3G Live! (Vodafone Australia) and Sky HD (BSKYB).

Before joining the FLA as Head of Motor Finance, Adrian Dally held a number of key civil service roles, including the UK’s Agriculture and Food Attaché in Brussels, policy lead at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food during the BSE crisis, and latterly, Head of Policy at the Financial Ombudsman Service. He is also Chair of the Governing Body of St John Payne Catholic School, a successful secondary school in Chelmsford.

David is responsible for defining and executing Dealflo’s sales strategy. He is active in developing Dealflo’s product strategy, being an expert in all forms of financial services origination including customer verification, financial crime prevention and risk assessment. He previously worked at Callcredit, helping them build a new division to £10m+ of recurring revenue.
A strong believer in the power of people, Spencer Halil has been part of the BMW Group family for over a decade. He heads up ALPHERA Financial Services UK, and was at the forefront of the brand’s recent ‘Financing the Car of the Future’ thought leadership project.
Richard has 27 years in motor finance, all at DSG Financial Services. Positioned at the forefront of brokers since then, DSG has been a solid supporter of the franchised dealer point of sale sector continually innovating to enhance the customer finance experience. More recently as CEO, Richard has overseen a significant investment into DSG by Promethean Investments and is focused on integrating an independent lending subsidiary into the group.

Darryl has been in motor finance for over 20 years. He spent 10 years with Bank of Scotland before moving to Lookers PLC as a Regional F&I Development Manager in 2005. Since being with Lookers, Darryl has progressed to head up the F&I team for the Group and more latterly taken on the role of Group Quality of Sale Manager. As well as still being responsible for F&I, this role involves responsibility for improving internet lead generation, enquiry management, customer retention and satisfaction.
Richard is head of risk strategy for Santander consumer finance responsible for the delivery of arrears strategy and projects. Richard benefits from an extensive understanding of the financial services market, along with significant management experience gained through his work in franchise dealerships and two of the biggest banking groups in Europe.
Director of Products, Propositions and Business Enablement
Jim joined Black Horse on 1 December 2016 as the Director of Customer Propositions . Jim joined Black Horse from the Insurance sector where he has gained over 20 years experience in Customer Proposition Development, Marketing and Distribution of long-term savings propositions with a number of leading UK Insurers. Jim combines strategic thinking and a strong focus on the customer with proven planning, channel optimisation and change management skills.
James has been in the asset finance industry for over 30 years with Bank of Ireland. Joining NIIB as a New Business Representative in 1986, he was appointed Sales Manager for the Mid Ulster region in 1992. In 1995 he was appointed head of commercial asset finance and then became Sales Director for the business in 1997. Geographical responsibility increased in 1999 when the Northridge brand (subsidiary of NIIB) commenced trading in GB. In January 2010, he was appointed Managing Director for the NIIB/Northridge business in the UK. James is an economics graduate and also holds the Finance Houses Association Diploma.
Steve has over 30 years’ experience of the motor trade, working for several top-tier dealer groups in senior F&I positions. Previous to working at Marsh, he was employed as group F&I Manager for a major dealer group, responsible for placing in excess of £120m annually with finance houses. With long experience of systems implementation, compliance, and training, as well as work with lenders of all kinds, he is a respected and outspoken representative of the F&I community.

Upon graduation Karl immediately began the search for a career that offered excitement, creativity, and an opportunity for reward. This led to two years in the car sales department of Camden Motors, followed by six years with Lombard which started in Account Management and progressed to roles in Operations and then Regional Management.
In 2003 Karl joined MotoNovo Finance, (then known as Carlyle Finance) as a Regional Manager, becoming Head of Sales & Marketing in 2008 and Divisional CEO in 2016. He currently oversees a Motor Finance team of over 500 for MotoNovo, which has been the leading independent finance company in terms of profitability and growth for the last six years.
